Accredited Online College Degree?

By now you will have heard and read a lot about Online College Degrees. If you have decided that an online college or university degree is defiantly the right degree for you there is one more thing you need to check before signing up and above all other factors this is probably the most important. Make sure the course that you are about to take is an Accredited Online College Degree course. If it's not you could spend the next few years studying for a worthless piece of paper.

So what exactly is accreditation? Accreditation is a process that Universities, Colleges and institutions of further education undertake that evaluates the content of courses along with other factors such as the efficiency and quality of the courses. This is usually done by extensive reviews of the course and of the facilities offered to students. The methods of accreditation vary from country to country. Many countries have government bodies set up to provide accreditation whereas in the United States accreditation can either be done on a national or a state basis. The performance of the course can be measured against national performance or statewide performance metrics. In the United States the Accreditation providers are private institutions so it is imperative that you along with checking that a course is accredited that you also check who it is accredited by. Unless it is a widely respected and acknowledged accreditation institution then it is best to look elsewhere.

Accreditation is important as it give you and future employers something by which to value your degree. Getting a degree which is not accredited is not going to benefit you in any way as it may not be recognized by employers or even other educational institutes. Any credits earned from it may be worthless and you may not be able to transfer them to another university or college. So before you sign up for that degree course make sure it is a correctly accredited online college degree that you are about to embark on.
